Titlul prezentării: Effect of Climate Transition Risk on the Normal and Tail Equity Fund Performance (based on joint work with W. Ben Omrane, Anis Chaibi, & S. Lazrak)

Abstract: This paper presents new evidence on the impact of climate transition risk and economic policy uncertainty on the selection performance (alphas) of a comprehensive, survivorship-free sample of Canadian domestic equity funds from 2008 to 2024. We find that size-weighted portfolios of these funds underperform both before and after management-related costs; however, this underperformance becomes neutral once accounting for the effects of climate transition risk. A block-bootstrap analysis of funds at the extremes of the selection performance distribution further highlights the material role of climate risk. Specifically, the underperformance observed in the left tail appears to be driven primarily by random variation, or “bad luck,” rather than a lack of selection skill. In contrast, only a few funds demonstrate genuinely superior management abilities before fees.
