The Babeş-Bolyai University is currently the largest Romanian university, situated at the confluence of the Eastern and Western cultures. It is a dynamic higher education institution, but also a traditional one, with deep roots in Central Europe and strong international academic ties. Cluj-Napoca, located at the heart of Transylvania, one of Romania's historical regions, is the largest city of the region and the second largest city in Romania (after Bucharest).

Romania was included in the Rough Guides' top 10 countries to visit in 2016, Transylvania was designated as the number one region in the world to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet, while a recent survey conducted among 41,000 people in 79 cities across Europe by the UK's Office for National Statistics designated Cluj-Napoca as the friendliest city for foreign people in Europe.
