The project will significantly contribute to a better knowledge of the field. It will cover a field of economic historiography insufficiently researched until now, that of regional economic history. A
synthesis of regional economic history will be achieved that will have international relevance and circulation. It will represent the basis for a future economic history synthesis of Transylvania, Banat and Bucovina. Thus, a major gap will be filled, having in mind that in Romanian history treatises approaches are either outdated (as is the case of the one published by the Romanian Academy in 2004) or too briefly outlined (as in the case of volume III of the History of Transylvania published in 2008). Another field where research will have an impact is that of topical debates regarding sustainable development, the role of Euro-regions in the new context of EU policies, as well as foreign investments in the economy of the area. A thorough analysis of economic and social history carried out in the above proposed framework may reveal interesting historical conclusions that may somehow guide development strategies elaborated at a regional level since historical experience, although taking place in a completely different environment may be useful today too if we are to implement effective and sustainable development strategies.
