Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

For authors. When submitting a full paper to the conference, authors must acknowledge and consent to the following statement:

  • Full papers submitted to the conference should not have been published previously in their current or substantially similar form (with several exceptions: published abstract, part of a published lecture, academic thesis), or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  • Publication of any full paper has to be approved/consented by all its authors (and by responsible authorities where the work was carried out, if that is the case).

  • Full papers submitted to the conference must be original and avoid any type of plagiarism. Thus, authors must consider the following indications:

    • avoid self-plagiarism: submit only manuscripts that haven't been published previously in the same format or substantial similar form (accepted exceptions: published abstract, part of a published lecture, academic thesis); also, if parts/aspects of the current paper have been previously published, it is necessary to acknowledge this aspect in the paper (and underline differences, etc.);

    • avoid verbatim copying plagiarism (verbatim = word by word): if you copy verbatim a sentence or a part of a sentence, you are required to put the copied text in quotation marks and cite the original author (e.g. The author Kotler (2002, p. 6) defines value as "a ratio between what the customer gets and what he gives");

    • when paraphrasing other authors' ideas/work in your own paper, you should cite the authors in the text; to paraphrase correctly another author's work means to change and rearrange sentences (paragraphs) in a significant manner and indicate the reference (the original author);

    • avoid quoting excessively the same paper(s) and using excessively verbatim copying (even if references are made);

    • definitions, classification, characteristics, steps, categories, variables, components (and other elements that imply enumeration) should always have references, if you are not the original author who proposed them;

    • when using figures (images, graphics, charts, etc.) or tables from other authors or other published papers (or even webpages), it is requested to mention the references; when changes/adaptations are made to figures or tables, you should also cite the original author;

    • when using secondary data (not collected by you) in your text or analysis, it is mandatory to specify the original source of the data.

For editors. Editors must acknowledge and consent to the following statement:

  • Editors should evaluate manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic merit.

  • An editor must not use unpublished information in the editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

  • Editors should take reasonable responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript.

For reviewers. Reviewers must acknowledge and consent to the following statement:

  • Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.

  • Reviews should be conducted objectively, and observations should be formulated clearly with supporting arguments, so that authors can use them for improving the paper.

  • Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

  • Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
